It's centrally located in downtown Yangon, at the intersection of Mahabandoola Road and Sule Pagoda Road.
History
The pagoda is believed to be over 2,600 years old, making it older than the famous Shwedagon Pagoda. According to legend, it was built during the time of the Buddha.
Architecture
The pagoda is an octagonal structure with a central stupa surrounded by smaller shrines. It's topped with a golden spire and is a prominent feature of the Yangon skyline.
Relic
The Sule Pagoda is said to enshrine a strand of hair from the Buddha, given to two Burmese merchant brothers.
Political Significance
The pagoda has been a focal point for political protests and rallies, including the 1988 uprisings and the 2007 Saffron Revolution.
Visiting Hours
It's open daily from 6 AM to 8 PM, and there's no entrance fee.
