It is renowned for its hundreds of glittering pagodas, stupas, and monasteries that dot the hill’s slopes, offering a peaceful retreat for Buddhist pilgrims, monks, and nuns.

To reach Sagaing Hill from Mandalay, the most convenient option is by car or taxi, which takes about 30–45 minutes, crossing the Ayeyarwady River via the Ava Bridge. Taxis are readily available, and you can arrange for a round trip or have the driver wait while you explore. For a more budget-friendly option, local buses and shared mini-buses run frequently between Mandalay and Sagaing town, where you can then take a local taxi or motorbike taxi to the hill. Another scenic option is traveling by boat along the Ayeyarwady River, offering beautiful views before arriving in Sagaing. Once there, visitors can either walk up the hill via staircases or hire a motorbike taxi for easy access to the various pagodas and monasteries.
