Location

It's situated on a small hill named Dhammapala in Mayangone township, just south of Yangon airport.

History

The pagoda was constructed to enshrine a sacred Buddha tooth relic, believed to be one of the teeth of Gautama Buddha. The relic was brought from China in 1994 and enshrined for 45 days for devotees to pay homage.

Architecture

The pagoda resembles the ancient Ananda Pagoda in Bagan, featuring a large white building adorned with golden ornamentations. It has four entrance portals, each flanked by white and gold Chinthe (mythological lion-like creatures).

Visiting Hours

The grounds are open daily from 6 AM to 6 PM. Admission is free, but there's a small fee for cameras.

Getting There

The easiest way to reach the pagoda is by taxi, which costs around 5,000 Kyat from downtown Yangon.
